Gyða Valtýsdóttir
Gyða Valtýsdóttir is a musician, composer, and cellist, known for her work as a founding member of the experimental pop group múm. Classically trained, her music spans film, theater, dance, and various creative collaborations. Gyða’s innovative cello playing blends sensitivity and strength, while her compositions dissolve genre boundaries, creating a unique sound.
Her extensive list of collaborators includes the Kronos Quartet, Aaron & Bryce Dessner, Damien Rice, Dustin O’Halloran, and Ragnar Kjartansson.
Gyða was awarded the Nordic Council Music Prize in 2019 for her distinct vocals and instrumental creativity. Her solo albums, Epicycle (2017), Evolution (2018), and Epicycle II (2020), earned multiple Icelandic Music Awards, with Evolution winning Album of the Year”and her first film soundtrack nominated for several awards. Her latest album, Ox (2021), celebrates both light and dark, blending rich arrangements and introspective soundscapes.
