Snæfellsnes residency
as part of RITUAL, we held an artistic residency set against the breathtaking backdrop of Snæfellsnes, Iceland. bringing together musicians, scientists, and artists, including Yo-Yo Ma, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, and leading glaciologists, the residency explored the deep connections between art, science, and the environment.
centered on the majestic Snæfellsjökull glacier, the residency fostered days of reflection and collaboration at the glacier’s foothills. under the guidance of marvaða’s artistic director Arnbjörg María Danielsen and composer Viktor Orri Árnason, the project wove together contemporary music, ancient Icelandic poetry from Völuspá and Látra-Björg (1716–1787), and evocative writings by Andri Snær Magnason.
the residency culminated in a ritualistic performance at the Harpa concert hall. RITUAL honours the fragile power of nature and the urgency of environmental stewardship. it is a profound reminder of our shared responsibility to protect and celebrate the natural world, blending creativity and science in a sacred space of contemplation and action.
