viibra is a flute septet exploring the possibilities of expanded flute playing. Founded in 2016 in support of Utopia by Björk, the ensemble is best known for its dynamic role in Björk’s acclaimed theatrical concert Cornucopia, performed between 2018 and 2023.

The individual members of viibra are all esteemed performers, composers, and educators, working with improvisation and diverse approaches to music-making, and maintaining active practices within Reykjavík’s vibrant creative scene. Their self-titled debut album reflects the ensemble’s collective creative force, opening the work to friends and collaborators and inviting listeners into an evolving shared journey.

"viibra’s self-titled debut is a groundbreaking exploration of the flute’s potential. Each track is ajourney through the minds of its composers, brought to life by the ensemble’s unparalleled cohesion and artistry."

— Music Crowns

“The members of viibra are clearly a close-knit group, and it’s interesting to note the extent to which each of the composers utilizes them as a single, multifaceted organism. In this respect, it makes more sense to think of these works as primarily behavioural, exhibiting diverse processes and shifting group dynamics.”
